The team at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre celebrated recognition in several categories at the recent WA Aquatic and Recreation Industry Awards.
Top of the list was being highly commended for the Peter Hobson community impact award, thanks to the Long Live You program.
The program targets the over-50s and offers gym membership and a host of sporting opportunities to help seniors stay active, healthy and connected.
In addition to team recognition, aquatics duty manager Graham Macaulay was acknowledged for his 40 years of service.
His love of surfing, coupled with a job at what was then the city’s new aquatic facility back in the 1980s, has led to a career lasting four decades.
His work has taken him from Albany to the Goldfields and Wheatbelt, before eventually bringing him back to the ALAC, where he has been part of the team for the past 10 years.
City of Albany chief executive Andrew Sharpe congratulated Mr Macaulay on his long career.
“We are incredibly proud that Graham Macaulay has received his 40-year industry award, recognising four decades of dedication and contribution to the aquatic and recreation industry,” he said.
“Graham has made an enormous contribution to the sector, sharing his knowledge and experience while helping to create welcoming, safe and inclusive recreation opportunities for the community.
“Graham exemplifies the professionalism, commitment and genuine passion for community service that sits at the heart of ALAC, and his longevity in the industry is testament to the value he continues to bring to his colleagues and the community.”
The awards ceremony took place in Perth on August 27.
