Forrest Highway fire: bushfire along Forrest Highway causes road closures but now under control

An out-of-control property fire has caused a section of the Forrest Highway to be temporarily closed while emergency services use machinery to rebuild firebreaks.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but it was first reported at 10.45am on Wednesday after a paddock parallel to the Forrest Highway near Raymond Road caught alight.

Fifteen emergency service crews were sent to the blaze, which is “under control” but still spreading in a south-westerly direction. Residents have been warned to stay alert.

South West police have cordoned off a section of Forrest Highway near the entrance to Treendale, causing traffic to sit idle and detours put in place.

According to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, bushfire crews are using machinery to ensure the fire does not spread to nearby residences and are remaking firebreaks along the property.
