Kalgoorlie-Boulder hit with 3.1 magnitude earthquake on Saturday afternoon

Kalgoorlie-Boulder was hit with its second earthquake this week after a 3.1 magnitude quake rocked the town on Saturday afternoon.

Geoscience Australia recorded the epicentre in Kanowna, around 25km north of the Goldfields town at a depth of 12km at 3.36pm.

By 5.50pm, 59 people reported the earthquake to Geoscience Australia.

It comes after a 2.7 magnitude earthquake hit the town on Thursday at 7.56pm.

Thursday’s earthquake hit the town at a depth of 2km and its epicentre struck Parkeston, barely north east of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder town centre. Geoscience Australia received 78 reports from members who felt the earthquake.

An 2.9 magnitude earthquake was also recorded south east of Coral Bay on Thursday around 6.15am.
