Cockburn woman checks Lotto ticket on phone before bed to find out she’s a millionaire

A Cockburn woman had a sleepless night after checking her Lotto numbers on her phone just before bedtime — and finding out she was an instant millionaire.

The woman, in her late 20s, had bought the Slikpik 40 ticket online.

“I said goodnight to my partner and was about to put my phone away and go to sleep, but decided to check my ticket first,” she said.

“When I saw that I’d won, I started screaming and was in complete shock.

“I put my phone in my partner’s face saying, ‘Is this real?’

“I called my sister straight away and she just said, ‘You’re joking’, and didn’t believe me.”

The woman, who said it was a welcome interruption to her bedtime routine, had been dreaming of buying a house.

She said she would use the money to get into the property market.

The news comes as the jackpot prize for this Thursday’s Lotto Powerball draw jumps up to $100 million.

“If a WA player takes home the entire $100 million division one prize, it will be the biggest win for the State on record,” Lotterwywest spokesperson Emma Rogers said.

It follows a string of wins for WA Lotto players in the first fortnight of the year, including a Scarborough couple that won $2.3 million, a retired couple from Duncraig who won $1m and a Willetton family who took home $2.3 million.
