New Manjimup entry statement in place

Almost five years after Manjimup’s southern entry arch was accidentally knocked down, a tribute entry statement was last week installed.

The former southern entry statement, a tribute to the area’s heritage and landscape, was knocked down by a truck in July, 2013.

The Manjimup Shire Council was unable to replicate the southern arch.

“We wanted something (to replace it with) that was significant to the people and the area, something the community had chosen and something we could all be proud of,” Manjimup shire chief executive officer Andrew Campbell said.

“For this reason, we asked the community to decide on the tribute.”

Businesses and individuals were encouraged to submit tribute designs and the top three were voted on by the public.

The chosen concept installed last week was designed by Armsign Pty Ltd.

“It has timber elements in line with the previous structure and the design also incorporates local flora as a visual element,” he said.

“Shire officers are thrilled with the results. We hope the tribute remains in place for many years to come and that the community embraces it.”
