Manjimup Scouts are prepared for the coming year following training to cover changes implemented within Scouts Australia.

Organisation changes provide more opportunity for children to gain leadership skills.

Manjimup Scouts Group leader Dave Allen said changes meant children took more of a front seat for growth and leaders moved into a more supervisory role.

“We’re trying to implement it a bit earlier in the Cubs, so they have a nice advancement into Scouts,” he said. In Manjimup, there are Joeys, aged five to seven-and-a-half, Cubs, aged eight to 11, Scouts, aged 11 to 15, and one Venturer, aged over 15.

“We have a group camp in two weeks time in Northcliffe,” Mr Allen said.

“We’ve got events coming up as a source of promotion, where we’re the helpers at Karri Valley Triathlon and at the Warren District Agricultural Show.” Even though the Scouts season has started, children are still welcome to join and the troop is always looking for more leaders or parent helpers.
