A family of four, including two children, have been found dead in a suspected double murder-suicide at a home in Mosman Park.

Police are investigating the horrific incident, at Mott Close, in Perth’s western suburbs, which involves the deaths of a mother, father, their two teenage sons and their pets.

The bodies of the 50-year-old father, a 49-year-old mother and their two boys —aged 14 and 16 — were discovered with a note at the home. Two dogs and a cat were also found dead at the property.

Detective Inspector Jessica Securo said the alarm was raised by a person who it is believed had been arranged to provide medical care to the teenagers.

“We do know that both children experienced significant health challenges,” she said.

“This tragic incident occurred only this morning, and it will take time for police to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”

She said there were no signs of violence at the home and police were investigating whether the children were killed before the parents took their own lives.

“We will look at this holistically to see what led to this incident and go from there,” she said.

Det. Insp. Securo said the family was not known to police and had been working with care services before the incident.

“What I can advise is that there was no weapon used during this incident, and the family have no reported family violence matters with police,” she said.

It’s understood at least one of the boys attended Christ Church Grammar School — one of Perth’s top private boys’ schools.

Several streets surrounding the property have been closed as people are being urged to stay away from the area, which is one of Perth’s most affluent suburbs.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

St John WA has confirmed five ambulance crews were called to the scene at 8.29am. The crews remained on scene late on Friday morning.

Politicians have spoken out in the wake of the tragedy, with Police Minister Reece Whitby labelling the deaths “devastating and tragic”.

“My thoughts are with the families, loved ones and communities affected,” Mr Whitby said.

“I thank WA Police, paramedics and all first responders for their actions in dealing with what are extremely confronting circumstances, and I also want to acknowledge the person who attended the home and alerted police.

“WA Police have commenced an investigation but have advised there are no safety concerns to the community.”

Federal Curtin MP Kate Chaney said the double murder-suicide is “shocking and devastating for our community”.

“My thoughts go out to the friends and relatives of this family, as well as the first responders, and the neighbours and local community who knew them,” Chaney said.

“This heartbreaking loss of four lives will have lasting effects throughout our community.

“I hope the police investigation will provide more information soon about the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

“I encourage everyone impacted by this news to hug their loved ones and if needed.”
