The search continued through the night and on Saturday morning, specialist police units joined the search, including Police Air Wing drones, Water Police and the Emergency Operation Unit.

The missing woman’s family issued a statement: “Our family appreciate all the efforts of the police, SES volunteers, Parks and Wildlife Service, St John Ambulance, DFES and other volunteers.

“We are very thankful of the love and support from our friends and family. We appreciate the media’s respect of the ongoing police operation.”

Police would like to hear from anyone in the area of Salt River Road, Formby Road South, Chester Pass Road and nearby areas on Thursday, and who may have seen or provided a lift to Ms Byrne.

Local and district police, specialist trackers from the Tactical Response Group, SES volunteers and rangers are also involved.

Mrs Bryne was wearing a cap with a camouflage fly net, a green and white polo shirt, grey 3/4 length pants and black runners.

Inspector Geoff Dickson said on Friday that it was “out of character” for her to have wandered away from the family group.

Police said Mrs Byrne had no known medical condition and is fit for her age.

Police and Mrs Byrne’s family are asking for any information from the public that may assist in locating Mrs Byrne.

If anyone has any information please contact police on 131 444.
