Hockey: Special anniversary awaits for Boyanup Hockey Club in 2024

The Boyanup Hockey Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year and the devoted club faithful are already counting down the days. On March 16 in the Ferguson Valley, hundreds of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters will come together to celebrate one of the most successful South West sporting clubs. Life member Reg Green has seen a lot of changes in South West hockey, from venues to players. But one thing has remained constant — loyalty to the “All Blacks”. “My grandkids are the fourth generation playing at the club,” he said. “My mother played back in early 1950s and I played from 1972 onwards. “Then both my kids and grandkids did as well. “When I was playing, there were a lot of Boyanup and Ferguson (Valley) guys, with a couple from Bunbury. Now, it’s a lot of Bunbury guys, with a couple from Boyanup and Ferguson Valley.” Reg’s son Brian, a distinguished player and present club vice-president, outlined why the anniversary is special for all involved at Boyanup. “Basically, every member here is family to us,” he said. “It’s such a close-knit club. It’s a massive achievement to reach 90 years and pretty awesome to be a part of.”
