Teenager, 14, rescued following multi-hour operation after being swept from rocks at Warriewood, in Sydney

A teenage boy has been saved following a daring cliff face rescue, after he was swept off the rocks in Sydney’s Northern Beaches region. The 14-year-old was knocked off the cliff by a large swell at the Warriewood blowhole near the Turimetta Beach Headland on Monday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene about 1.20pm, he was located with the assistance of water police and helicopters. Fire and Rescue NSW acting superintendent Andrew Bickle said due to the injuries the boy sustained in the fall he had to be extracted by rope. Footage of the rescue shows emergency responders abseiling down the cliff face before winching the boy to safety. “He was extricated from that area on rope by NSW Fire and Rescue crews,” Superintendent Bickle said. “He was then treated by ambulance paramedics.” The protracted rescue effort lasted multiple hours, with the boy being brought to safety about 4pm. He had multiple cuts and abrasions, in addition to a head injury and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
