WA Day Festival: Celebrations starting Sunday June 4 at Burswood Park with free public transport

A reimagined WA Day Festival will celebrate what makes this State great at a bigger and better location this year. With a new site, the festival has been expanded over two days and while it remains on the beautiful Burswood Parklands, the event has moved closer to Optus Stadium to provide easier access by public transport and more room for activities. The free entry event will deliver fun on June 4 and 5 thanks to support from major partners, the State Government, BHP and Lotterywest. Celebrate WA chairman Michael Anghie said the festival provided an important opportunity to come together to reflect on WA’s history. “We are excited about our new location and we know all West Aussies will be able to get to the festival with the free public transport for both days and the event being next to Stadium Station, the Optus Stadium precinct and nearby Burswood Parklands,” he said. “With more food trucks, more rides, more entertainment and more activations across two days and a bigger event site – it’s going to be the best WA Day next weekend yet. “The drone show and fireworks will be something to remember as we light the sky with iconic WA images to delight people of all ages. “We cannot wait to celebrate WA Day with everyone. “Everyone can attend and enjoy the biggest community festival in the State thanks to our generous major supporters the State Government, BHP and Lotterywest, Premier Partners Woodside and Roy Hill and Festival Sponsors Navitas, RAC and Perdaman.” For the first time, the drone show and fireworks will take place over two nights meaning even more people can see WA icons lit up above the Swan River. Drone Sky Shows chief executive Josh Van Ross said months of planning went into the 500-strong drone show. “The show looks fantastic. There will be plenty of WA icons including the friendly quokka, the RAC Rescue helicopter, and more surprises,” he said. This year’s display will also include more 3D images. Mr Van Ross said, “from the technical side it’s a lot harder but it makes it a lot more impressive”. Homegrown rockers Voyager will headline the performers entertaining the crowds during the weekend, fresh from their successful TV performance to millions at Eurovision. Australian Idol judge Amy Shark will also perform on a weekend that will see dozens of food outlets and entertainment activations descend on the park 10am to 10pm on Sunday and until 7.30pm on the public holiday Monday. WA Day has something for everyone with free carnival rides, roving entertainment, games, a giant silent disco, more than 80 food trucks, the Channel 7 news desk, and SciTech displays. If you can’t make the Perth festival, the regions will also mark WA Day with community celebrations offering a variety of performances, live entertainment and family friendly activities in Albany, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Newman and Fremantle. Port Hedland will also host its own mini-festival on June 18 with a drone light show, live entertainment and carnival rides on June 18, thanks to the support of BHP.
