WWE punters are looking up and praying for clear skies after wet weather conditions have already caused havoc, cancelling the annual Rottnest Swim.

Rain and wet conditions caused by the remnants of an ex-tropical cyclone could have an impact on the WWE’s epic Elimination Chamber event at Optus Stadium on Saturday.

Perth locals awoke to the sound of rain this morning, after suffering through several blistering heat waves over the last few weeks.

The annual Rottnest Swim, which took off from Cottesloe Beach on Saturday morning, was abandoned part-way through after organisers determined the weather conditions to be too dangerous.

But the rain could have bigger implications ahead of a wrestling extravaganza expected to attract a crowd of more than 40,000 on Saturday afternoon.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Helen Reid told The West Australian that the conditions were likely to last for a few days.

“We’ve got a bit of a rainy morning and we’re expecting to see more showers on and off,” she said.

“There is also the possibility of thunderstorms in some areas.”

But Ms Reid said it looked like the weather would clear up in time for the big event.

“We are hopeful that it will ease in the afternoon and early evening but the conditions will still be wet,” she said.

“We’re expecting it to be wet again tomorrow.”

The West understands the event will go ahead rain, hail or shine.

The line-up includes Australian WWE champion Rhea Ripley as well as Logan Paul, Grayson Waller, Austin Theory, Cody Rhodes, Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, Becky Lynch, LA Knight and Bianca Belair.

There has been increased speculation that wrestling megastar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may make an appearance, off the back of a feud with Rhodes and Rollins.

Gates open at 3.30pm at Optus Stadium and the event kicks off at 5.30pm.
