From picnics to fluffy socks, chocolates and quality time, Perth’s dads have been reminded of how cherished they are as they celebrated Father’s Day across the city.

For many, it was a day to soak up quality time with the people they love most, be spoilt with special treats and reflect on the many blessings of fatherhood.

Kings Park was alive with celebrations on Sunday, including that of Beaconsfield dad James and his kids Eloise, 11, and Hannah, 9, who took a picnic and coffee to enjoy outdoors.

James was treated to some special heartfelt cards from his daughters.

“The girls love you all the time, but for them to actually show their appreciation and to write some really warm words in their cards really means a lot to me,” he said.

Cameron McCall and his two-year-old son, Spencer, spent the morning taking in the beauty of Kings Park, one of its playgrounds, and enjoyed spotting its dinosaur statues and play grounds.

The occasion was especially meaningful because it was the first time Mr McCall, a FIFO worker, was home for Father’s Day.

“It was awesome to see him celebrating me, you don’t often get that. He was definitely being extra loving and giving me hugs and high fives,” Mr McCall.

“It feels great, it makes it everything feel worth it.”

Cockburn dad Fabricio, his wife, Daniella, and their kids, Gabriel, 20, and David, 16, came back to celebrate Father’s Day at Kings Park for the first time in 15 years.

The family wanted to be outdoors for the special day, so they took a barbecue breakfast to cook and spend quality time together.

The proud dad was spoilt with pyjamas, chocolate, some spicy relish and spent the afternoon at home watching movies as a family.

“To me the importance was spending time together, stopping our busy lives for a bit, and just doing a little reset,” Fabricio said.

Grant and his wife, Zahra, from Willeton, took their three-year-old Leon for some dedicated family time at Kings Park for Father’s Day where they were able to pause and reflect.

“I’ve been reflecting on all the stuff that dads do and all that’s great about being a dad,” Grant said.

The dad was treated to some chocolates and books to read with his son and planned to spend the day “taking it easy”.

“It’s a moment to reflect on being a dad, and being the best dad I can be. You can sometimes get lost in the day-to-day, but it’s a journey, and today is a good day to take a step back,” he said.

Duncraig dad, Laurie, had an all out family bonanza on Sunday, spending time with his in-laws in the morning and his own dad in the afternoon.

“We did morning tea at Kings Park with my father-in-law and mother-in-law, wife, daughter, son, and nephew who’s visiting from Scotland, and then we were off to South Perth to have lunch with my dad,” Laurie said.

“My kids got me one of my favourite things, a couple of blocks of rocky road, but it’s more about spending the day with family than presents.”
