More heavy rainfall is on its way, with fresh weather warnings issued for thunderstorms and flooding across parts of WA.

The Bureau of Meteorology have issued an alert warning that wet conditions could lead to flash flooding in the South East Coastal district throughout Thursday afternoon.

“A low pressure system developing about the Central Wheat Belt is producing a rainband with isolated embedded heavy showers and thunderstorms over parts of the South East Coastal,” a spokesperson for BoM said.

Heavy falls also remain possible over a broader area of the inland South West Land Division east of Cunderdin.

It comes after an already very wet start to the day, with 30 mm of rain being recorded at Jerdacuttup in the 2 hours to 9:55am on Thursday and a whopping 52 mm recorded at Hopetoun Airport in the 6 hours to 10am.

Thunderstorms are likely to hit the Central West coast, eastern South West Land Division, southern and eastern Goldfields, southern South Interior and Eucla on Thursday, with the warning continuing into Saturday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that in case of a thunderstorm, people should find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.

Locals should be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.

Perth residents won’t dodge the miserable weather entirely, with up to 6mm of rain expected in the metro area on Thursday, mainly across the afternoon.

The wet weather in the city is set to clear up by Friday with a mostly sunny outlook for the weekend, with a balmy 25C forecast for Sunday.
