One of Western Australia’s top draft prospect could miss the entire Under-18 National Championships with exciting forward Koby LeCras battling a knee injury.
The West Australian understands LeCras injured his knee in his league debut for West Perth against South Fremantle last weekend in a blow that could rule him out for months.
LeCras is set to see a specialist early next week which will determine the extent of the setback, but is almost certain to not play for WA in their campaign which is set to start in June.
The teenager is the son of former North Melbourne and Falcons forward Brent LeCras and the nephew of West Coast great Mark, who kicked 441 in 219 games for the Eagles and was part of their 2018 premiership victory.
Koby LeCras had seven disposals and three marks in his league debut for West Perth, having come off three goals as well as 8 disposals and seven marks for the AFL Academy against Richmond’s VFL side in Melbourne a week earlier.
LeCras — who turned 18 last Sunday — was considered one of the best prospects out of WA this year, having trained with the Eagles over the summer as part of his National Academy Duties.
A crafty forward like his uncle, the 193cm potential AFL draftee will now have to wait to see the extent of the injury before it is determined if he will play at all this year.
His father Brent LeCras played six games for North Melbourne in between two stints at West Perth, where he kicked 159 goals in 141 games and won the Simpson Medal in the 2003 grand final victory.
Mark also played 41 games for the Falcons, kicking 69 goals before cementing himself as a regular in the Eagles’ AFL side.
