Flynn Southam is the fastest qualifier for the 100m freestyle semifinals, topping champion Kyle Chalmers and fellow Aussie Kai Taylor.

It comes on another morning of dominance from the Australians in the pool, with all but one swimmer cruising through their heats.

Southam continues to prove he’s one to watch with the 21-year-old producing the second-fastest qualifying time, 48.58, in a talent-laden field after claiming silver in the 50m freestyle on Sunday.

“It was pretty easy, but I’m keeping a lid on it now and saving up for tonight and hopefully tomorrow night as well,” he told Channel 7.

England’s Gabriel Shepherd was the only man to register a faster time at 48.44 seconds.

Superstar Chalmers was also a comfortable qualifier while Taylor, who claimed gold in the 4x200m freestyle on day three, put himself in a strong position to medal again.

Chalmers said the results were testament to the depth of talent Australia has in the pool.

“We’ve got some generational talent coming through,” he told Channel 7.

“Making it through to the semifinal, I know they’re going to be dangerous.”

The morning session at Tollcross International Swimming Centre started with Matthew Temple qualifying for the Men’s 200m butterfly final.

However, while Harrison Turner was able to join him by winning his heat in a time of 1.56.27, Se-Bom Lee couldn’t recover from a slow start and missed out.

Tara Kinder, Jenna Forrester and Ella Ramsay were all comfortable qualifiers in the 400m Individual Medley before Iona Anderson flew through the 50m backstroke heats alongside Hannah Fredericks.

Mollie O’Callaghan withdrew from the event.

The Aussies did well in the Para events as well, Alyssa Gillespie and Gemma Sellick getting through the women’s SB8 100m Breaststroke.

Tim Hodge finished second in the SB9 Men’s 100m breaststroke as Josh Willmer of New Zealand broke the Commonwealth Games record with a time of 1.11.99.
