Gabriel Langton released from hospital after sickening gymnastics fall that rocked Commonwealth Games

England’s Gabriel Langton has been released from hospital as he continues to recover from the horrific fall that rocked the Commonwealth Games during his team gymnastics final.

Medical staff rushed to the 18-year-old when a high-bar routine gone wrong saw him land on his head and neck on Saturday morning (AEST).

The event was put on hold as Langton received treatment from officials before being taken out of Glasgow International Arena on a stretcher.

In a statement on Sunday morning, Team England said the teenager has escaped any serious injury.

“Gabriel was transferred to the hospital as a precautionary measure overnight and underwent multiple scans today, with very positive results,” the statement reads.

“Thankfully, he has been cleared of any serious injury complications and will be discharged to return to the team hotel this evening.

“He is in good spirits and hugely grateful for the many messages of support and the excellent care provided by the medical teams. He is looking forward to being reunited with the team to celebrate his silver medal.”

Langton had pulled off an impressive floor and rings routine to help put England in a position to defend their Birmingham title before they eventually finished in the silver medal position.

He was absent from the podium when teammates Luke Whitehouse, Alex Yolshin-Cash, Josh Nathan and Adam Tobin received their medals.’

Langton’s accident appeared to have an affect on his shaken team, white Whitehouse admitting: “It was really tough.

“We just had to reset, try to put it to one side mentally and focus on the job we had to do. I think everyone should be proud of the way we carried on after Gabe’s fall.”

The scary incident put a dampener on Australia’s heroics in the event The Aussies ended their 12-year medal drought at the Commonwealth Games, denying hosts Scotland in a tense finish to claim bronze.

With the hosts threatening to cause an upset heading into the final of six apparatuses, debutant Ritam Malik rose to the occasion with a brilliant pommel horse routine to help Australia secure a podium spot with a combined score of 235.650 points.

A near-flawless Canada team won gold (241.400 points), pipping 2022 Birmingham champions England by 3.150 points.

Australia’s men won their first team medal since their maiden gold at the 2010 Delhi Games, doing so with four debutants in the five-man squad.
