Fremantle’s season of records has notched another accolade as a full house watched their scintillating Friday night blockbuster against Adelaide.

Not even train delays could stop the Fremantle faithful from flooding Burswood with purple, the club registering their ninth consecutive crowd of 50,000 or more, a new single-season AFL record.

They were in fine voice all night as well, making their displeasure at the umpires felt and roaring their team on, undoubtedly buoyed by the fact they stole the record from arch rivals West Coast, who had eight 50,000-plus crowds in a row during their 2018 premiership season.

The Dockers have rarely seen a crowd below the mark this season as they attempted to complete a clean sweep of their home games in 2026 on the way to a minor premiership.

The 55,010 at the game against the Crows was not their largest crowd of the season; the 56,616 that watched their home western derby against the Eagles was only topped by February’s AFL Origin showcase between Western Australia and Victoria.

That derby figure was their highest home-and-away crowd figure while they also registered their top two non-derby crowds this season.

Wearing their retro jerseys, the Dockers and Crows put on a show, continuing their history of close contests.

Coming into the night, Fremantle had won six of the past seven meetings between the two clubs by an average margin of 15 points.

The clash between the two sides earlier this year in Adelaide was decided by two points after a match-saving smoother from Fremantle skipper Alex Pearce.

Some fans missed the start of the game after a technical issue stopped the trains on Friday evening, leaving supporters stuck inside train carriages on their way to the stadium.

A spokesperson from the Public Transport Authority said there had been a track-related issue near Stadium Station.

“Trains on the Armadale and Thornlie-Cockburn Lines are experiencing delays due to a technical issue,” Transperth posted to social media.

“Trains will continue to run; however, they are not running to the regular schedule. Thank you for your patience.”
