IN PICTURES: Big turnout for charity bike run that raises $7000 for Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal

Albany streets were filled with the sounds of motorbikes on Saturday as riders took part in the 39th annual Charity Bikers Toy Run, raising more than $7000 for the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal. Motorbikes decorated with tinsel and festive colours travelled from Foundation Park to Frenchman Bay before finishing in York Street at the city’s town square. Event organiser Lynton Morgan said the toy run was a huge success and the day ran smoothly. “It all worked extremely well. It was an absolutely fantastic day,” Mr Morgan said. “Everything went well, traffic management were happy, the police were happy and the bike crew were happy. Mr Morgan said this years run attracted a record number of participants. “We had 300 riders, including 18 Australian post riders from Albany which was a record and a good turnout,” he said. Locals lined the streets to watch and support the convoy as they passed through the streets of Albany. “All the seating was taken up in the town square, people were standing down York Street and a good number down on the foreshore,” Mr Morgan said. In addition to the $7000 raised, many toys and canned food items were donated as part of the run which will be given to the Salvation Army to help support families in need across the Great Southern during the Christmas period.
