Raymond Smith murder: Police charge man with murder over ‘suspicious’ disappearance

Homicide detectives have charged a man over the murder of missing man Raymond Smith in WA’s South West. Bridgetown man Kevin Allan Craig Potter, 35, appeared before Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday via video link from Bunbury charged with murder. Mr Smith’s body was found on Thursday in bushland on the outskirts of Greenbushes, about 20km north-west of Bridgetown, after he had been missing since December 7. Police revealed earlier in the week they believed his disappearance was suspicious as it was “out of character” for no one to have heard from the man. Forensic investigators combed the 68-year-old’s Blackwood Road home on Monday and Tuesday before making the tragic discovery. Neighbour Joanne Woods said she knew “something wasn’t right” when his front door was left open for a week. “(Mr Smith) was always very polite. He’d stop out the front, wave, say hello,” she said. “We noticed that his door was open and his vehicle was in the garage. “The door was never closed for the rest of the week, we realised then that something wasn’t right.” Mr Potter was remanded in custody on Sunday and is expected to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court later this month.
