The new and improved Chapman Valley are off with a win as the Schofield-led side got up 6.15 (51) to 6.4 (40) over Brigades at GBSC Sports Park on Saturday.

The biggest story for the Royals was their new recruits, including the Schofield brothers leaving the Hawks for the Valley and they did not disappoint.

The combination of Jayden and Kim Schofield along with Beau and Kobe Simpson from Rovers helped bring Chapman Valley up out of a first half rut and bring home the 11-point win.

Valley had early scoring looks, but they were shooting themselves in the foot with inaccuracy on goal, kicking 0.5 in the first quarter.

Brigades had a quick clearance in the second, but Kobe Simpson was able to send it out of danger.

The young gun Riaz Mohammed got a look at goal and slotted it, as the flood gates opened for Brigades.

Geraldton Buccaneer Fletcher Klasztorny had strong patches in the ruck on his debut for the Hawks.

Despite the sides having the same number of scoring opportunities in the first half, Brigades had the 5.1 (31) to 0.6 (6) lead.

The Royals came out in the second half and looked like a new side, and Tyrone Jr Papertalk quickly slotted one for the Valley’s first goal of the game.

Chapman Valley started dominating from the centre of the ground, having the ball live in their forward 50 but poor goal kicking held them back.

Late in the quarter it was coach Jayden Schofield who took a shot at the goal but came up short and Brigades let him know about it.

Brigades were kept scoreless in the third while Valley kicked 5.8, taking the lead going into the final quarter.

The physical game was visibly taking on a toll on the teams, with players from both Hawks and Royals pulling up sore after contests.

Valley’s fitness showed up in the match, with Jayden Schofield taking the ball for a run along the sideline with a few bounces and finding a man deep.

Royals came up short, but their kick mark game got Jaye Colegate a shot on goal, booting it to seal the 11-point win for Chapman Valley.

Tyrone Jr Papertalk kicked three goals for the Valley side during the win, while Hassan Ahmat-Watkins had three for the Hawks in the loss.

At the Rec Ground, a bag from Damien King propelled Railways to their first win with a 18.10 (118) to 7.7 (49) domination over the Rovers.

The Blues were coming off their round one loss to Northampton that came down to the final quarter, but they put the hurt on in the second-round clash.

This match saw another coach on debut, with Chris Scott running out with the Demons in his game the team leader.

However, he couldn’t get the side to rally in their first hit-out while King from Railways won the match off his boot with a seven-goal haul.

Blues had 10 individual players hit the scoreboard during the win alongside King’s efforts, while Rovers’ Farren Parfitt also had himself a day out with five goals in the losing effort.

In the reserves Brigades got up over Chapman Valley 7.6 (48) to 5.9 (39), Gallagher Bracken and Dylan Lucas both had three goals in the win while Aaron Thomas slotted four.

Railways handled Rovers 16.14 (110) to 3.1 (19). Darcy Wiffen had a bag of five in the win.
