21 years of success for Kristoffersson Cup
More than 180 golfers turned out to play in the 21st annual Kristoffersson Cup, with its organiser saying the Manjimup competition was one of the best yet.
Originally started by Robyn Kristoffersson and her husband in 2001 after the old growth timber industry was shut down, the couple wanted to bring money into the town and decided a golf tournament was a great way to do it.
Ms Kristoffersson said in the past 21 years she had seen competitor numbers fluctuate between fewer than 150 to more than 270.
“I think this year we have had a great turn out, it was not too many people it became crowded but also still a really good turnout,” she said.
The competition organiser said over the years the amount of money brought into town every year because of golfers travelling from as far as Esperance and Perth must be “in the hundreds of thousands” which helped local businesses.
Ms Kristoffersson said the cup was a great attraction for Manjimup on the tourism front and allowed the town to show off the country club and the surrounding nature to visitors.
The next tournament to be held in Manjimup is the Manjimup Shootout in May.
