Ahead on the ledger
Both teams from the Warren Blackwood Cricket Association had respectable showings at last week’s Senior Country Week cricket carnival.
The B section team finished the carnival with three wins and two losses, beating Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association, Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association and Great Southern Cricket Association.
Their defeats came in the semifinal and final, losing to South Midlands Cricket Association and then Esperance Cricket Association.
The E section came away from the carnival with one win and four losses, defeating Northam Cricket Association but being beaten by Newman Cricket Association, Port Headland Cricket Association, Peel Cricket Association and Northam Cricket Association in a rematch.
Daniel Ward was the pick of the B section batsmen, scoring 179 runs with a top score of 113, the fourth highest score in the section this year.
Jason Mead scored the most runs for the E section team, compiling 111 runs in four innings.
Jordan Jupp and Tristan Mead were the pick of the B section bowlers, taking seven wickets each, while in E section, Angelo Femia took eight wickets.
Other individual performances of note include James McAlinden’s 120 not out against Northam, the second highest score in this year’s B section competition and the highest all-time recorded score of any Warren Blackwood Cricket Association Player in the section.
