Award-winning artist brings workshops to Lower South West

Four Lower South West towns will play host to sculptor Mikaela Castledine, pictured, as the Perth-based artist holds crochet workshops as a part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial exhibition. Pemberton, Northcliffe, Walpole and Nannup will each host a workshop conducted by Castledine to teach participants the basics of crocheting. The workshops, titled Thinking in 3D, are part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, an international arts exhibition which brings together painters, craftspeople, sculptors and designers from the Indian Ocean Rim for a giant showcase. Castledine, an award-winning artist and writer, said she was excited to hold the classes. She said the aim of the workshops was not the end product but more about enjoying the process behind learning to sculpt and taking time to hone a piece. The tour schedule starts with Northcliffe on September 25 at the Northcliffe Meeting Space, Walpole on October 16 in the Petrichor Gallery, Pemberton on October 17 in the Fine Woodcraft Galley and in Nannup with details yet to be decided. The Indian Ocean Craft Triennial runs from September to December.
