Barracudas rule at both ends of the court in round three

Barracudas were ferocious in thumping Warriors by 59 points in the top men’s competition to wrap up round three of the Manjimup Amateur Basketball Association last week. Quick ball movement and extra passes in offence continuously led to either open three-point shots or easy layups for most of the Barracudas, while centre Kurt Donohue was an anchor at the defensive end. Donohue put up some monster blocks as he swatted away most shots that came near him in the paint. While Donohue locked down any drives to the basket, Warriors were forced to shoot from the perimeter, where the quick hands of guard Braden Wilson led to a number of steals for easy fast-break points. Despite the big margin, both sides played the game out hard as Barracudas ran away with the win and a final score of 69-10. Elsewhere across the men’s division Raiders were able to take down Imperials 47-35, Dingos defeated Yabbies 54-22, Cobras topped Spoonbills 53-34, Hawks A got the best of Giants 42-29, while Wolfpack claimed a one-point victory over Hawks B 36-35. The top women’s division saw Aces snatch a two-point win against Pink Ladies and Comets knock off Vipers 38-17. In the AR women’s competition, Slam Dunks were able to beat Magpies Orange 38-24 while Mystics came up with a 35-31 win over Senators. In women’s B grade Bush Chooks defeated Panthers 42-17, Senators took a 22-14 win over Magpies Blue and Saints beat Aus Stars Green 32-27. Following discussions with teams, the association has also decided to merge the AR and B women’s grades into one division for the remaining rounds heading into the Christmas break. The move will be reviewed again during the break.
