Big cheer as cherry festival sweetens town calendar

The Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival going ahead as planned is sweet relief for everyone involved.

The event volunteer committee’s unanimous decision to hold the December event was made last week.

Festival coordinator and chairwoman Pam Bodsworth said the committee had been closely following the State Government’s recommendations.

“In the background, we had continued planning,” she said.

“It’s really important for the shire, tourism and for everyone who supports the event, which is really the whole town.

“Unless the State Government reinstates tighter COVID restrictions, we’re going ahead.”

Treasurer Franzine Karamfiles said the committee had been receiving many calls about the event and inquired about accommodation.

“By bringing people here, we hope it can boost the economy,” she said.

Chain Reaction has already been confirmed for the festival, and Two Little Blackbirds chef Joe Ditri has expressed interest in holding a masterclass.

The festival’s grand parade will return, as well as the Manjimup Art Competition and the Photography Competition.

The annual fundraising quiz held in August will not go ahead.
