Blessing of the Roads reiterates safety message

The importance of road safety will be in the spotlight next week for a Blessing of the Roads event ahead of the Easter period.

To promote road safety in and around the Shire of Manjimup, shire staff are joining forces with the Road Safety Commission’s campaign Towards Zero, which is a strategy to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries to zero.

The Blessing of the Roads ceremony will be held at Allambie Park at the corner of Ipsen and Mottram streets from 1.45pm for a 2pm start on March 28.

Manjimup shire president Paul Omodei said it was important for road users to be responsible with their actions, obey the road rules, avoid distractions and slow down and enjoy the ride.

“With Easter being a four-day holiday and many families travelling to visit family, friends or going on holiday, this campaign provides an opportunity for participants to reiterate the road safety messages being implemented in local communities,” Cr Omodei said.

An afternoon tea will be held following the ceremony at the council’s community information office on Brockman Street.
