The Warren-Blackwood Bombers faced one of their most competitive games of the 2021 season at the weekend, claiming a gritty 22-point win over South Bunbury, 5.5 (35) to 2.1 (13). After comfortably defeating all teams in the South West Junior Football League this year, the match-up with fourth-placed South Bunbury proved a tight contest for the undefeated Bombers. As expected, the Bombers attacked the scoreboard through multiple players, with Sophie Scott, Emily Read, Tegan Ellis, Shirley Pickett and Payten Della all kicking one goal a piece. Ellis, Scott and Read have been damaging in front of goals all season, with the trio leading the club’s goal kicking tally with 20, 19 and 13 goals for the year respectively. Although they were successful up forward, the Bombers defensive pressure also stood the test, keeping South Bunbury to just two goals and a behind for the day. The 22-point final margin is the closest a team has come to beating the Bombers so far this year. The win also moves the Bombers’ winning streak to 12 for the year as they look towards yet again making a deep finals run. However, the Bombers’ biggest test for the end of the regular season will be facing their closest rivals on the ladder, Busselton, this Saturday. They finish the last two rounds with games against Augusta Margaret River Hawks Gold and Green.
