Nine players from the Warren Blackwood Bombers Year 10-12 girls team have impressed selectors from the West Australian Football Commission’s South West Development Squad with their recent performances.

Terea Blee, Zara Blee, Holly Gill, Lacey Holdsworth, Mackayla Lowe, Sophie Scott, Lauren Vuckovic, Carla Ward and Abbey Wilson were all invited to be a part of the squad, announced on August 31.

Bombers’ coach Shelley Scott said the squad was a chance to receive a higher level of coaching.

“They develop a new skill set,” she said.

“It’s also good for them as they get to meet all the girls from other clubs they play against.”

Sophie Scott said she thought the squad was a good opportunity.

“We had our first training last week on Wednesday and it was a good experience,” she said.

To be selected for the squad, players must first be nominated by their club and from there, they are scouted and selected based on their game performance.

Shelley Scott said she was proud of the girls and their commitment.

“We are just really proud and really excited for them and it is just a credit to them really and their commitment to football and promoting female sport,” she said

“It just shows that these girls from the country can mix it with the city kids.”
