Boyup Brook creatives showcase craft at new event

Boyup Brook creatives displayed their talents this month with a new event to celebrate Neighbourhood Centre Week. The inaugural Makers in May was co-ordinated by the Boyup Brook Community Resource Centre and based on the concept of the former Autumn Art Affair, to show off the work and skills of some of the areas craftspeople at the town hall on May 15. Some of the crafts included sewing, knitting, candle making, jewellery making, spinning and upcycled items with a range of stalls which featured glass etching, resin art and ceramics. The talent of local artist and sculptor Sandy Chambers was on full show as he spent the day crafting a piece out of clay and reflected on the Autumn Art Affair which he and his wife Jacquie organised. The day also showcased various workshops and demonstrations for community members to pick up some new skills like playing the guitar, making bath bombs dismantling e-waste or weaving baskets. Neighbourhood Centre Week ran from May 8-14 and celebrated the role of community centres across the country.
