Boyup Brook St John Ambulance sub-centre has been crowned the best branch in WA. The win was announced during the annual St John Experience recognition ceremony, after being considered the best in WA regarding volunteering training, first-aid workshops and ambulance services. The Boyup Brook branch was nominated for the award by the SJA South West office for their reliability and response rate. Feats the volunteer team had accomplished included 20 defibrillators placed throughout the Lower South West community, as a part of the Automated External Defibrillator program. Boyup Brook sub-centre chair Angela Hales said the team was held in high esteem because of the hard work they put in around the communities they served. “Our team is known for their dedication, their commitment and compliance,” she said. Ms Hales said the team working out of the Boyup Brook branch consistently showed why they were trusted by the State Operations Centre when called upon during emergency situations. “It’s the awesome volunteers that we have ... and that’s why we turn a crew out for any calls that come through from the State Operations Centre,” she said. St John Ambulance South West regional manager Dianne Langford-Fisher said the one thing which made the Boyup Brook sub-centre stand out was their willingness to help other sub-centres when required.
