Bridgetown reopens refurbished gym
Bridgetown residents will be able to enjoy the refurbished gym facility at the Bridgetown Recreation Centre, which was officially opened last week by O’Connor MHR Rick Wilson.
The project cost $324,600 and was part funded by a Sports Australia Grant of $108,200, which allowed for the existing gym to be expanded and equipped with all new exercise equipment.
Thanks to the funding the project was brought forward by 12 months.
Alongside the official proceedings, guests at the opening had the opportunity to receive advice from Rob Allen, who is a six-time Mr Australia Bodybuilding Champion.
They were also given a gift bag, aimed at encouraging participation in exercise and one lucky person also won an extension of their gym membership for a year.
Bridgetown-Greenbushes shire president John Nicholas said he hoped the upgrade of the facilities would increase their use by the community.
“I’m hoping and I think we are all hoping that the investment that we’ve made in the equipment and in the building will generate some increases in membership to the gym, and also provide those people that are already gym members with some really first-class facilities.”
The new equipment within the gym is leased, rather being owned by the shire, which Cr Nicholas said would ensure it could easily be replaced in case of damage.
“With that lease comes all the maintenance, repair and replacement and the replacement is done almost immediately,” he said.
