Chance for young to join council
Boyup Brook Shire Council will hold elections for a replacement for out-going councillor Graham Aird.
The electoral process will officially begin when public notice is given, with the council seeking permission from the State Government to hold the election in October.
The election will be held for the vacant Scotts Brook Ward, held by Mr Aird since he was elected unopposed in 2011.
Council chief executive Chris Smith said the council was hoping COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted by then to allow elections to proceed normally.
Mr Smith said he hoped younger people would be encouraged to run for election to ensure the council contained youth voices.
Council president Richard Walker said sitting on the council was a great opportunity to contribute to the community.
“We are always looking for a good representative spread from the community,” he said.
“It is a matter of people wanting to get onto council and being keen to contribute, that’s the important thing.”
