Colts unite to take on best young footballers

Manjimup-Bridgetown Times

Footballers from all seven Lower South West Football League teams will represent the region at the Great Southern Colts Carnival this weekend.

Following on from their third consecutive win at last year’s grand final, 25 players aged 15-19 from teams across the league will make their way to Kulin this weekend.

Uniting to become the LSWFL Royals, the team will compete against the best footballers from Esperance, the Goldfields, the Upper Great Southern, Peel, the Wheatbelt and Ongerup.

Coach Josh Rayson said the carnival gave the players an opportunity to test themselves against the best players in the State.

“There are a lot of players who have put a great deal of effort into being a part of the team representing the LSWFL,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the guys.

“This is one age group where you want to give them an opportunity to play against different associations.

“It’s really great to see a squad of players so enthusiastic about representing the region,” he said.

The Royals will kick off the carnival against the Goldfields at 9am on Saturday.
