Boyup Brook had a cruisy round in the Lower South West Football League after a resounding 54-point win over the Kojonup Cougars, walking away victors 12.8 (80) to 3.8 (26). The Roos started off superbly, kicking four goals and four points in the opening term to the opposition’s one goal and four behinds. Although a very physical Kojonup side tried to outmuscle the home team, Boyup Brook used their technical ability to outplay them in key parts of the field. In the second quarter Boyup Brook doubled their lead over the Cougars as the increasingly frustrated away side began lashing out more and more. This nearly sparked a six-man brawl which had to be stopped by teammates and an umpire stepping in and pulling them apart. The Cougars managed only a point in the second period as Boyup Brook went into the half-time break sitting on a comfortable 7.5 (47) to 1.5 (11) lead. With the game almost out of reach for the visitors, all Boyup Brook had to do was suppress the key players for the opposition and the game would be theirs. Daniel Cabassi and Mckenzi Nix delivered a great game for the Roos as they began to run away with the result. Kicking four goals and two points, Boyup Brook went into the third quarter break nine goals ahead of the battered Cougars. However, even as the lead extended beyond Kojonup’s reach they never gave up the fight and pushed the home team for the full 80 minutes. Dillon Battistessa and Jamie Marinoni played well for the losing side and were named best and second best on ground respectively. The result puts Boyup Brook four points behind Bridgetown on the ladder but leaves Kojonup second from last as they hover above the winless Southerners. The Roos will have a bye this week before taking on Southerners in an away game, while Kojonup will play Imperials away this weekend before a bye the following week.
