Deanmill Hawks reserves soar to grand final with 25-point win over Boyup Brook Roos

After watching their colts side claim a massive win earlier in the day, the Deanmill reserves will also soar through to the grand final after a hard-earned 25-point win against Boyup Brook. The Roos got off to a hot start thanks to two goals from Scott Tweedie. However, the Hawks were able to steady the ship and bring the margin back to just one point by the first break. The second quarter was where Deanmill really started to accelerate after kicking three strong team goals which certainly put the game on their terms before half-time. The two sides traded goals to start the second half but the Hawks had Boyup Brook looking flustered and kept themselves comfortably in front for the rest of the third term. Deanmill managed to get themselves up by five goals for a short while, but a massive late-game surge by the Roos saw them kick four straight as the lead shrunk back down to just eight points. Despite a comeback looking like a serious possibility, a free-kick given to Hawks’ Blair Fowler in front of goal for a push in the back brought the margin back to more than two goals. A fantastic crumb by Hawk Jake Edgar quickly after saw him kick a bouncing ball through for another goal and the game was all but over. The Roos were incredibly close to delivering an all-time preliminary final upset, but Deanmill finished the job with a full-time score of 12.7 (79) to 8.6 (54). The Hawks will now come up against Bridgetown this Saturday in Manjimup for the reserves grand final.
