‘Delirious’ racers set off from Northcliffe on ultra marathon

A 340km ultra-marathon through the southern coast of the South West has begun in Northcliffe today. The Delirious WEST (Western Endurance Scenic Trail) 200 Miler will see 34 people run along the world-famous Bibbulman Track from Northcliffe to Albany. The marathon started on the section of the track opposite the Northcliffe Visitor Centre at 7am this morning and finishes at Frenchman Bay in Albany with four sleep stations along the way. Last year’s winner in the men’s division, Jon Pendse, finished the race with a time just over 70 hours and 13 minutes, while the women’s winner, Sarah Foster, finished with a time just over 71 hours and 18 minutes. The record time lies with Australian and British endurance athlete Dion Leonard, pictured, who finished in 61 hours and 24 minutes in the inaugural 2019 race. Competitors will have between today and Sunday, October 10 to complete the race, with the cut off for completing it set at 104 hours. Each entry free will also see $100 go towards the Bibbulman Track Foundation for upkeep and maintenance of the trail. The public will also be able to keep track of runners via a live-streamed GPS map of the race through the event website.
