Denny Mathias Stephens pleads guilty to driving drunk, twice over the legal limit

A repeat drunk driver has again pleaded guilty to a number of charges in Manjimup Magistrates Court. Denny Mathias Stephens was driving his Toyota along Brockman Street in Pemberton just after 6pm on January 22 when he was pulled over by police during a roadside random breath test checkpoint. The court was told that the first thing police noticed was a passenger in the car with Stephens did not have his seatbelt on at the time. The situation became worse for the man after he returned a positive blood alcohol level of 0.126. Magistrate Joanne Andretich told Stephens it was not only “incredibly dangerous” to be as intoxicated as he was while driving, but made worse when one of the people in the car was not safe meaning any crash could have been life-threatening. For the drink-driving offence Stephens was fined $1000, for failing to ensure a passenger over 16 was wearing their seatbelt he was fined $500. He was disqualified from driving for 18 months.
