Fall bags six for the Hawks as they run riot over Southerners

Southerners’ 2021 season has not been going to plan so far after suffering another massive loss at home, this time at the hands of Deanmill. The 78-point thrashing is the Southerners’ fifth loss this year leaving them dead last in the ladder with no wins to show for any of their outings. The first quarter was quite a close-knit affair with both sides making the most of their scoring opportunities. But it was Deanmill who went in at the break in better condition after kicking five goals and four behinds to the two goals kicked by Southerners. The second quarter was an even more closely contested period with both sides using their physicality to shut the opposition down. The quarter ended with both sides only having kicked a goal each and the gap at half-time only 22 points in favour of the visiting side. The third quarter was nothing short of a defensive masterclass by the Hawks who completely halted the Southerners’ ability to score. The home side was unable to get so much as a point in the third period, while the visitors went on to score another three goals and two points and dash any hope of the Southerners getting back into the game. The Deanmill outfit ended the game strong, kicking seven goals in the fourth quarter to compound the misery of their opponent. The Southerners did manage to kick one goal in the fourth term too, but it was far too late as the scores ended at 102-24, with Connor De Campo given the best on ground honours as part of the 2021 Belt Up Round. Jack Hick did his best on the day kicking three goals for the Southerners while his Deanmill counterpart David Fall booted six goals. Deanmill can come away from this game in high spirits and hopefully a return to good form after suffering a demolition at the hands of Bridgetown last week. The Southerners play Kojonup next week who are sitting just above them on the ladder.
