“We got to hear about fabulous projects and community participation and see and hear from award winners,” she said.

“We came together with some great ideas after the event and on the way home, talked about what we wanted to accomplish for 2021, and we have some big projects planned.

Greenbushes Community Resource coordinator Gail Aldridge said they were thrilled to be finalists.

“It was fantastic to go and be with others who were nominated and listen to their stories and find out what they are doing for their communities and how they actually made it through COVID and made it through the whole year,” she said.

“It’s getting our name out there to be recognised for what we are actually doing for the community, it’s wonderful people are getting to know who we are, what we do and that we’re actually working really hard for the community.”

Mrs Aldridge attended the event with Nicole Ward, her predecessor, who was in charge of the centre’s response to COVID-19.

They were joined at their table by Greenbushes’ other finalist Heidi Rodgers and her mother Louise Rodgers.
