Forestry still on top after win against Bridgetown

Forestry Cricket Club extended their winning streak to nine games on the weekend, defeating Bridgetown by 17 runs at Bridgetown Oval.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Mitch Clothier drew first blood, dismissing Mat Johnston for one run.

Forestry’s Dan Ward combined with Corey Gibellini (15) and Kallan Fall (14) to wrestle back momentum.

Hugh Mitchell provided the hosts with the pivotal wicket of Ward for 63 runs.

At 5-124, Brock Tempra (22) and Braden Gibellini (13) steered Forestry to a defendable 167.

Clothier (2/24), Reece Waters (2/27), Brendon White (2/31) and Darcy Walsh (2/33) each nabbed two wickets for Bridgetown.

In reply, Bridgetown’s run chase began with fast runs to the Hugh Mitchell and Braden Watkins before Watkins fell in the seventh over to Ward.

At 1-49, wickets continued to fall regularly with Ward picking up career-best figures of 5/31.

Mitchell (51), Matthew Tassos (34) and James Mcalinden (21) pushed Bridgetown into striking distance however they were soon bowled out in the 34th over for 150 runs.

Ward (5/31) and Jared Johnston (3/21) had the best bowling figures for Forestry.

The loss sees Bridgetown slip to fifth on the ladder while Forestry remaining firmly on top of the ladder
