Fundraisers walking for a good cause
In an effort to increase their support of cancer research, a group of Pemberton women are adding to their fundraising repertoire by holding their first ever cancer walk.
Last year the women held a high tea to raise money for Cancer Council WA and this year, in addition to wood raffles, the ladies have added to the fundraising opportunities by organising the inaugural Big Brook Cancer Walk.
Co-organiser Mary Morris said the walk aimed to include more of the community in fundraising ventures, more so than the high tea could accommodate.
“We’re doing it in the school holidays so we’re hoping that means more people can come along,” Mrs Morris said.
The walk will be held at Big Brook Dam from 2pm on Saturday.
“We’re starting on the beach area of Big Brook Dam,” Mrs Morris said.
“Then people can walk in either direction of the 4km route we’ve organised.”
Mrs Morris said she looked forward to seeing how many people came along to the walk.
Entry is $5 per family and there will be a sausage sizzle from 3pm for $3.
“It’s not a race, people can take as long as they like,” Mrs Morris said.
People can also bring bikes, skateboards or prams on the walk.
