Girls unite for festival
Girls from various schools in Bridgetown and Manjimup came together last week for the second annual Girls Festival.
Organised by the Bridgetown branch of Days for Girls, the Girls Festival provided an opportunity to show students what made them special and how they could help others.
Festival co-ordinator Brooke Murphy said the Girls Festival was about empowering the young girls of the region.
The students were made up of Bridgetown High School Year 8 girls, Bridgetown Primary School Year 6s and Kearnan College Year 7s.
“The event was about empowering them as artists, as humans and promoting community involvement by finding their place in the community,” Mrs Murphy said.
Activities included cooking, drawing and healthy lifestyle activities such as yoga.
The body image station was focused on girls’ views of themselves and teaching them to think positive thoughts when they looked in a mirror.
Students also learnt about Days for Girls, a not-for-profit group that provides menstrual products for girls in developing nations, and helped pack several packs to send overseas.
