Hall of Fame honour
A Balingup business was inducted into the Hall of Fame and two first-time nominees won awards at the WA Tourism Awards at the weekend.
Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages won its third consecutive gold medal in the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards self-contained accommodation category, which means they have been entered into the awards’ Hall of Fame.
Owners Brian and Deb Vanallen said they were incredibly proud to have won the award and having been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Mr Vanallen said it was their willingness to work with other businesses in the region and how they connected with their customers that set them apart.
“We pride ourselves on customer service, we prefer the personal touch,” he said.
“This award is also a win for the region.”
The business is now entered into the national awards in Canberra next year, for which they also received bronze in 2018.
Holberry House in Nannup won gold in the hosted accommodation category.
Owner Louise Stokes said it was the first time the business had been entered in the WA Tourism Awards.
“Winning the Tourism Award in the South West Business Awards in 2019 gave us the confidence to enter the WA Tourism Awards program,” she said.
“We nominated because the awards program is a great opportunity to review your business plans, policies and practices.”
Mrs Stokes said she felt Holberry House was unique because it was ideally located in the Nannup CBD but also backed onto a rural setting.
Mrs Stokes said she had no expectations going into the national awards but a win would be wonderful for the region.
Diamond Forest Farm Stay received bronze in the hosted accommodation category and owner Kerriann Turner said she was ecstatic with the result.
“It’s the first time we’ve entered into an award program at all,” she said.
“We didn’t think we’d even make the finals, we were up against stiff competition.”
Mrs Turner said she looked forward to entering again next year. Chestnut Brae was also a finalist in the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
