The Giants and Hawks A went head-to-head in the eighth week of Manjimup’s basketball competition at the Manjimup Recreation Centre last Wednesday. The game started strong with points scored from Brendan Davies, Tyson Jacob, Brett Thomson, Keenan Wilson, and Shane Adams from the Giants, and Tyson Lee, Dan Ward, and Lyndon Muir from Hawks A. Hawks A led the first half by a point, 14-13, thanks to a free throw from Dan Ward. Hawks A kept the momentum up and stretched the lead with goals from Lyndon Muir, Nico Gleeson, Clint Zabaznow, and Tyson Lee. The Giants fought back and attempted to narrow the margin and take the lead, with goals scored by Shane Adams, Brett Thomson, Brendan Davies, Keenan Wilson, and Chey Jacobs. However, the Giants’ efforts were not enough to stop Hawks A from taking the win 33-27. In the men’s senior competition, the Dribblers won against the Dingoes 37-27, the Raiders had a 31-point victory over the Redbacks 68-37, the Purple Cobras won against Hawks B by forfeit, the Wolfpack defeated the Yabbies 51-40, and the Tropics were victorious over the Warriors 32-24. In the women’s A-grade senior competition, the Aces defeated the Mystics 23-22, the Pink Ladies had a 31-point win against the Slam Drunks 49-18, and Comets Red won against Senators Yellow 34-19. In the women’s B-grade senior competition, Senators Blue narrowly beat the Diamonds 26-25, Magpies Orange drew with Aus Stars 27-27, the Saints defeated the Comets (U19) 39-37, and Magpies Blue won against the Bush Chooks 30-25.
