The community is being called on to help people in need this festive season with various appeals in the lead-up to Christmas.

St Joseph’s Parish is holding its annual toy appeal and this year the combined churches will be holding a hamper appeal.

This year’s toy appeal got off to a terrific start last month when Manjimup eight-year-old Sage Hawthorne donated a lot of toys, suitable for all ages.

“There was a lot of toys in my toy room that I thought other kids could use,” she said.

St Joseph’s Parish secretary Tracy Lambert said the appeal was seeking new and great-condition pre-loved toys.

“We had 103 gifts last year and we’d love to at least match that this year,” she said.

“When giving the gifts to people in need, they will be chosen specifically for them.”

Mrs Lambert said she was constantly surprised by the depth of people’s generosity when it came to appeals in the festive season.

“We’ve had someone donate four packets of Lego in the past, this community is so amazing,” she said.

Donations for the toy appeal can be made at Manjimup ToyWorld and Two Little Black Birds until December 13.

The food appeal is a combined churches endeavour and donations can be made at Coles and Woolworths until December 14. All donations for both appeals will go to helping people living in the Shire of Manjimup.
