A much-loved staple of the Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival will return once again this year. The 2021 Long Table Lunch at Newton Orchards, which has sold out for the 20th year in a row, will revert to its lunchtime format after last year’s event was switched to a dinner. Newton Orchards’ Harvey Giblett, who has been running the event since its inception, said it was “amazing” to think it was now 20 years old. “If someone said it would have gone for 20 years I wouldn’t have believed them,” he said. “It’s amazing that it’s lasted that long and been very popular and successful. It’s pretty rewarding ... I’ve just always wanted to showcase a piece of Manjimup, I’m very passionate about Manjimup and what we have to offer here so that was my opportunity to show a contribution in terms of what’s available in Manjimup, and it’s a pretty special place as far as I’m concerned.” Mr Giblett said this year’s lunch would be one to remember because it would most likely be the last time the event was held in the orchard. “The cherry orchard where the long table lunch is held is just about past its use-by date in terms of tree age, so we’re putting a lot of effort into this last one to make it special,” he said. “We hope everyone enjoys it and goes away with a good lasting memory of the long table lunch in the cherry orchard at Newton’s.” The long table lunch will be on Sunday, December 12, the day after the Cherry Harmony Festival.
