Leeuwin voyage awaits trainees
Two trainees from the Manjimup Community Resource Centre have been selected to take part in a six-day voyage on the STS Leeuwin in January.
Shakila Haidari and Maddison Copley will sail from Bunbury on January 20, making them the fifth and sixth trainees from the Manjimup CRC to sail on the Leeuwin.
Their voyage on the Leeuwin has been made possible after a $140,000 grant was made by the State Government to the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation. Funding provided by the foundation allowed the centre to send two trainees, instead of one.
Centre executive officer Ranui Harris said the centre’s board of management had decided sailing on the Leeuwin should be mandatory for the organisation’s trainees.
“Our board of management decided to endorse that you had go on the Leeuwin, because we wanted to show our support to the Minister for making such a generous offer,” she said.
“You can’t opt out of it because it is a great opportunity and every single trainee that has got off the boat has said it has changed them and it changed their perspective on life.”
