Even though I have only moved to town this past Monday, I already have a sense of the deep love the locals have for Manjimup. Walking around the town centre, seeing the people stopped along the side of the road having a chat with the local business owners I realised I wasn’t in Kansas anymore. I’ve moved from Perth to the Lower South West after finishing my double major degree in journalism and history at Curtin University and will be joining the Manjimup-Bridgetown Times team to help bring even more quality news coverage to the region. I’m looking forward to meeting all the individuals that make up this community and diving into all the diverse and interesting stories they have to tell. I’m also a mad soccer fan and have supported the Perth Glory in the A-League since I was 10. I still remember my first Glory game when I walked into the stadium and after feeling the atmosphere that day I knew it was the sport for me. Having played the sport for almost a decade as well, I’m excited about having the opportunity to shine a light on the talent the South West has to offer. However, I’ve quickly learnt this is a footy town, so hopefully I can get along to some of the LSWFL games as well and see what all that hype is about. I’ll be floating around town in my first few weeks trying to get my bearings so if you see me in the streets, don’t be afraid to say “hey” because I’m keen to get to know everyone. I can’t wait to help represent the Lower South West, its people and their stories.
