Manjimup and Bridgetown will be well represented at the upcoming Netball WA 2021 State Cup in Perth. A number of local players have been selected for the South West teams which will compete at the Statewide competition at Gold Netball Centre from October 8 to 10. Players from across the region were selected after a two-day hub earlier in the year which included a number of training sessions and try-outs. The tournament will be played with five qualifying rounds followed by grand finals across three age groups of 18 & under, 16 & under and 14 & under. Named in the 18 & under team were Bridgetown’s Ebony Buegge and Abbey Hall, as well as Manjimup’s Hilary Ladhams. Bridgetown also heavily featured in the 16 & under squad with the likes of Rosie Hughes, Rachel and Tessa Kilchenmann, pictured, Molly Miller and Abbey Pitts. Manjimup’s Sydney Emmott was named to the 14 & under team, with Bridgetown’s Matilda Miller also named as a tournament umpire. Manjimup’s Suzi Giblett and Bridgetown’s Megan Burvill were also named as coaches of the 16 & under and 14 & under teams respectively. The State Cup, which was cancelled last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is an association representative competition which sees the top players, coaches and umpires from the Regional Academy Programs and Origin Energy Metro League battle it out, while also acting as a platform for them to be selected for future programs and pathways. The inaugural State Cup took place in 2019, which saw the South West make grand final appearances in the 12 & under age divisions.
